Your favorite Swedish automaker, known for practical Scandinavian design and a focus on safety, has now set its sights on the small car market. This is great news for urban dwellers, where space is at a premium, or for those with smaller driving demands who just don’t need all that car. Announced in a press release on May 18th, Volvo debuted two new concept vehicles, the Volvo Concept 40 models, an SUV model (Volvo Concept 40.1) and a Volvo Sedan model (Volvo Concept 40.2). Take a look at the video below for further information on these awesome concepts.

These concept vehicles are made possible by Volvo’s new Compact Modular Architecture platform, which was designed specifically for smaller cars, liberating Volvo’s designers and engineers to dream bigger, explore bolder and more daring designs. The newly-revealed 40 series concept vehicles show demonstrably how Volvo will expand into the large, lucrative global premium small car market, using this range of innovative vehicles that fuse bold design and industry-leading technologies to deliver one remarkable driving experience inside a compact package.

”Each member of our product family has its own distinct character, just like the members of a real family. CMA has helped us to capture something special, something youthful in our new concept cars. They have an energy, a disruptive and engaging urban character that makes them stand out amongst the crowd. This is the flavour of small Volvos to come,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design, at Volvo Car Group

If you’re interested in these bold new concepts from Volvo, hold onto your money for just a bit longer.
