Many of our younger customers probably don’t know the Volvo 850 by name, but we’re sure most folks could spot one on the street thanks to their iconic boxy styling that has informed the design language of generations of Volvo models since. If you’d like to help us celebrate this iconic model, you’re welcome to join us at Jaffarian Volvo for a test drive in one of our newer models.

From the outset, the Volvo 850 Series was making waves in the automotive market. The 1993 introduction of the estate car (called a wagon in the U.S.) brought with it a new wave of attention, garnering the prestigious Japanese distinction “1994 Good Design Grand Prize” as well as the Italian “Most beautiful estate.” Things didn’t stop there for the 850 Series. More engine options soon expanded the 850 Series lineup, and in 1994, Volvo returned to the racetrack with two estate versions of the 850. 1996 was the final production year for the Volvo 850 Series, but the cars didn’t go to rest, they underwent major upgrades to become the Volvo S70 (for the sedan models) and the Volvo V70 (for the estate models). Both models have since retired, but here’s one very cool fact: a total of 1,360,522 cars were built in model versions that originated from the 850 series. Talk about legacy!
When you look at today’s outstanding lineup of new Volvo models, you can see bits and pieces of the Volvo 850 Series models in the design language and even some of the features available on current models. For example, our current line of all-wheel drive XC models owe it all to the 850, the first Volvo vehicle to see four-wheel drive. Here at Jaffarian Volvo, we’re all about appreciating our roots while looking eagerly toward the future. Come see us in our Haverhill showroom to see what’s new in the Volvo Lineup and when you find the model that sings to you, one of our friendly sales associates will gladly get you behind the wheel for a test drive.
