Lately, as you are no doubt aware, there has been a lot of talk about autonomous driving (AD) vehicles. However, up to this point the vehicles have been unavailable to the public. Now, thanks to an innovative project known as "Drive Me," that's about to change. Volvo Cars, and Autoliv, a company focused on automotive safety technology, are partnering together in an initiative that will see families in Gothenburg, Sweden using 100 self-driving cars, daily, on public roads.
The two companies will collaborate to share data and advance research and development in order to bring universal adoption of AD vehicles closer to reality. Volvo president Håkan Samuelsson is hoping the initiative will shorten the timeline for offering the technology in their vehicles. "Autonomous driving will make our roads better and safer," he said.
